Researchers have been studying the effects of cannabis-related substances that make up the brain’s endocannabinoid system (ECS). It’s possible that stimulating the brain’s cannabinoid system with phytocannabinoids (plant based cannabinoids) may trigger an antioxidant cleanse of damaged brain cells ultimately leading to a better functioning brain (Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B). Activation of cannabinoid receptors can also reduce brain inflammation in several different ways, which may in turn suppress some of the disease processes responsible for degenerative brain diseases such as Alzheimer’s. Given that Alzheimer’s already affects one in eight people over 65— and nearly half of those over 85—and there have been few successes at treating or preventing it so far, that would certainly be a welcome change. Hemp CBD for Aging Skin As we age, our skin loses elasticity – hence the wrinkles. Essential fatty acids (omega-3 and omega-6) are necessary for maintaining healthy skin, and hemp cbd oil is one of nature’s best sources for both, in addition to its abundance of vitamins and nutrients (vitamins E and C). Whether as a balm for aching joints, a moisturizer for dry skin, or ingested for a more systemic approach to dry skin, hemp cbd oil should be considered an essential ingredient in maintaining healthy skin. A future, more detailed post about hemp cbd oil and skin care will address this in greater detail.
