As of 5/28/2019 the TSA has updated their policy on hemp based CBD products stating the following:
“Products/medications that contain hemp-derived CBD or are approved by the FDA are legal as long as it is produced within the regulations defined by the law under the Agriculture Improvement Act 2018.
TSA’s screening procedures are focused on security and are designed to detect potential threats to aviation and passengers. Accordingly, TSA security officers do not search for marijuana or other illegal drugs, but if any illegal substance is discovered during security screening, TSA will refer the matter to a law enforcement officer.”
What does this mean for you?
It means that if your carrying a CBD product that falls under the Agriculture Improvement Act 2018 (products derived from plants with less than .03% THC) then you may legally travel with that product. This applies to the vast majority of hemp based products on the market! This updated policy is quite welcome, especially after some passengers have been arrested for carrying CBD oil on planes - such as a 71-year-old woman who was arrested at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport last month. We are elated for this change and it truly shows that as a society we’re taking a step in the right direction!
